3 Ways Windows Update Improves Performance for Your Computer

If you’re noticing your computer is running a little slow, you might want to check and see if there are any updates available for Windows.  While this may be a difficult concept to accept, Windows update improves performance for your computer systems when done consistently.

According to Microsoft, installing the latest updates can help improve your computer’s performance.

If you like to keep your computer system not only improving in overall performance but also running more securely, then it’s a good idea to keep Windows fully updated by installing updates regularly.

You can find this under “Settings” within Windows to check for updates.

But let’s talk more about the importance of Windows updates and how they can improve performance on your computer.

Driver Updates

Driver Updates - Windows Update Improves Performance

Keeping your drivers up to date is definitely an important part of maintaining the optimal performance of your computer.  Drivers are software that allows your computer to effectively communicate with peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, and wireless devices.

When drivers are outdated, there can be a delay in communication with your computer and that particular device.  In some cases, the device may malfunction or stop working altogether.

The reality is that Windows can do the work for you and check if there are any updated drivers available for a device that you have connected to your computer.

Thankfully, Microsoft Windows has a built-in tool that makes it easy to update your drivers.

As I mentioned before, it’s all within “Settings”.  To get to Windows Settings do the following:

  1. Click on Start and select Settings from the Start menu.
  2. Under Settings, search for Windows Update.
  3. Once you’re in Windows Update, click the Check for Updates button, and Windows will search for any new updates.
  4. Install the new updates that Windows finds.

Windows is set up where this is done automatically, so most of the time you don’t need to do this manually.  You’re usually just prompted to reboot your computer to complete the installation.

However, in some instances, you might want to change the settings to your own preferences.

If there are some issues after updates are installed, you can always do a system restore, which in most cases tends to fix whatever issues may be related to any updates recently installed.

Reduces Vulnerability

Reduces Vulnerabilities - Windows Update Improves Performance

One of the biggest benefits of Windows Updates is that it addresses major vulnerabilities within the Windows operating system.  Being vulnerable leaves your computer system open for hackers to access your files easily.

Allowing hackers to gain access to your data and wreak havoc on their systems, is simply bad news.

And no one wants that…

By fixing this issue, Microsoft has made it much more difficult for attackers to exploit Windows users.

In some cases, vulnerabilities are discovered after an update has been released, so it is important to install them as soon as they come out, to reduce the risk of being exploited.  Hackers are always at work, trying to figure out ways they can hack into your computer.

Installing updates regularly will keep you one step ahead of hackers.

In addition to patching security holes, updates can also improve your computer’s performance by fixing bugs and adding new features.  Having new features installed can greatly improve the overall user experience within Windows.

In some instances, you may find that you need to update to the latest version of Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft has made it fairly easy for you to update your computer to the latest version of Windows by making it available via the updates.

As of this writing, Windows 11 is currently Microsoft’s latest version of Windows.

However, in some cases, it may not be readily available for your computer through updates.  Either because it’s no longer available for free through Windows updates, or your computer doesn’t meet the standards.

To see if your computer meets the standard for Windows 11, go to Microsoft’s website and check what the minimum requirements are.

If you’re not able to get Windows 11 for free, you can purchase a copy online.

Here’s a short video on the importance of Windows Updates.

Optimizes Settings

Getting your computer to run optimally can be accomplished in the settings of your Operating System.

Optimizing the settings within Windows can contribute to improved performance for sure.

Did you know this could be accomplished with Windows Update?

One example of an optimized setting in Microsoft Windows is the power management options. By properly configuring these settings, you can help improve your system’s energy efficiency and prolong the battery life, if it’s a laptop, and less wear and tear for a desktop.

Power management is used to determine how your computer behaves when it’s not being used, and how much power it consumes while it’s on.

Another example of an optimized setting in Microsoft Windows is the file indexing options.  By properly configuring these settings, you can help improve your system’s search speed and performance.

You can get more options to better optimize file indexing with regular Windows updates.

To Conclude

In conclusion, windows updates can improve performance in many ways.  Some of these updates are designed to improve overall system performance, while others are designed to improve specific areas of the system.

By regularly updating your system, you can ensure that your system is always running at its best.

In this article, I’ve provided you with 3 different ways in which Windows updates improve performance for your computer.

Driver updates is a great example of that.  By keeping your drivers up to date, you can be sure that your computer is running at its best because it’s communicating effectively with all peripherals connected to it.

It is important to keep your computer updated with the latest security patches to ensure that you are protected against the latest threats.  This in turn reduces the vulnerabilities and the possibilities of being hacked into.

And of course settings such as power management can also be improved with the regular installation of Windows updates.

Hopefully, I’ve convinced you of the importance of Windows updates, installing them regularly, and how it benefits both you and your computer.
